Overview
Big Innovation Centre is a global hub of innovative companies and organisations, thought leaders and ‘what works’ open innovators. We come together in taskforces to build innovative capabilities across innovation and investment ecosystems, where we see gaps or opportunities. We ensure that technology opportunities, emerging industries and business models, as well as policy and regulation is in sync. We work cross-industries and our areas of focus are mainly related to artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, “smart” and solving shared challenges around business models, public services, governance, intangibles and ecosystems.

10 highlights from our public affairs
- April 2019 – Big Innovation Centre was co-organizer of AI Everything – Global conference in Dubai World Trade Centre of 15 000 participants. Contributing with a (i) stand in the Exhibition zone, (ii) hosting all-afternoon sessions for two days in the conference Hub and conference Matrix, (iii) participated in the opening panel, (iv) provided conference keynote, (v) exclusive sponsor of VIP zone.
- December 2018– Big Innovation Centre won Think Tank of the Year 2018 by the Public Affairs Awards (PRCA)
- April 2018– Big Innovation Centre provides input to House of Lord’s AI Select Committee report, and subsequently invited to host the public debate on the report in House of Lords, Parliament
- January 2016 – Big Innovation Centre is appointed by Parliament to lead an All Party Parliamentary Group on Artificial Intelligence and January 2017 – Big Innovation Centre is appointed by Parliament to lead an All Party Parliamentary Group on Blockchain
- July 2013– Big Innovation Centre hosed the XI Triple Helix International Conference in London: ‘Bringing businesses, universities and governments together to co-innovate and solve economic, social and technological challenges’. Global Conference with 350 people from more than 25 nations
- June 2013– G8 Summit: Big Innovation Centre was selected by Downing Street No 10 and the Department of Business, Innovations and Skills, UKTI, to be among the few organisations showcased for the G8 delegation. This was with respect to leading the open innovation sphere (with big data, Internet of Things, sensor technology and AI) to the challenge of making the world more purposeful, healthy and sustainable. This was repeated for the Commonwealth Nations (90 FCO people based in 28 countries and 47 cities around the world) organized by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
- June 2013– Big innovation Centre launched the EU’s Flagship initiative of Horizon 2020 (part of EU’s Research Area and the Innovation Union initiative) at our London location.
- December 2013, Business Secretary of State, Vince Cable, launches the IP Reformin Big Innovation Centre
- December 2012– Big Innovation Centre established KPIs– launched as ‘Catapult to Success’ – for the UK £1.5 bill initiative on 10 Technology and Innovation Centres (Catapults) which was subsequently adopted. Commissioned by Technology Strategy Board, Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and ESRC.
- October 2011 – The Innovation and Research Strategy for Growthis launched in the Big Innovation Centre by Minister of State for Innovation, The Right Honourable David Willetts. The strategy has adopted our language of ‘the innovation ecosystem’. Later the minister describes us a “the perfect place to launch the Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth”.
