Retail is vital to the UK economy, generating £350billion worth of sales in 2015. It is the largest private sector employer in the UK with approximately 290,000 bricks and mortar retail outlets, let alone all of its online operations. In this debate we examine how the exponential rise in internet shopping, smartphone apps and payment technology is radically changing the way we shop. What is the future for the traditional bricks and mortar store and the people they employ? How will artificial intelligence, virtual reality & augmented reality - and the data generated - transform the retail experience into a far more personal one for the always-on shopper in 2025?
