Design Council
The Design Council and CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment) merged in 2011. The move brought together two world-class centres of design excellence to provide a "one-stop shop" for design support and advice to industry, communities, central and local government. The Design Council is a charity incorporated by Royal Charter and now includes CABE. Our aim is to promote design and architecture for the public good.
Why the Design Council is supporting the Big Innovation Centre
"The Design Council is pleased to be supporting the Big Innovation Centre’s ambition to make the UK a global open innovation hub. Innovation is essential for economic growth, creating the jobs of the future and meeting the challenges of the 21st century, such as new demands on healthcare and the impacts of climate change. A successful innovation ecosystem is dependent on a framework that builds on the strengths of both public and private institutions and firms. Design is an integral part of this innovation ecosystem. It is what links the creative idea to the product or service that meets customer needs. We are looking forward to working with the BIC and partners on future projects to ensure the UK builds on its current competitive strengths, such as design, and is recognised as a global innovation leader.
The Design Council is a unified voice for a broad spectrum of design, architecture and public space, placing good design at the heart of social and economic renewal. We provide evidence and demonstrate how design can help build a stronger economy and improve everyday life through practical projects with industry, public services and education."
