Regional hubs
Differences in regional institutions – and the interplay between them – matter to competitive success because innovation does not take place in an institutional vacuum, as Birgitte Andersen, Will Hutton and Ian Brinkley argued in their Big Innovation Centre launch report ‘Making the UK a Global Innovation Hub’. These institutional differences are related to our system of businesses, finance, research, education, regulation, local government and more.
Our aim should be to build enterprising regions that make their innovative ecosystem so attractive that they become key hubs where talent is fostered and investment and innovation are located, spurring economic growth, prosperity and job creation. The Big Innovation Centre aims to be the key catalyst in making this happen within the regions, and we have triggered new and dynamic thinking in our ‘Hub in a Day’ initiatives.
