Innovation and creativity are crucial to the UK’s competitive edge. That makes Intellectual Property an increasingly important tool for our economic growth.

The independent review of intellectual property and growth, conducted by Professor Ian Hargreaves in 2011, stimulated a programme of reform designed to ensure that the UK’s intellectual property framework was fit for modern needs and enabled growth. The IPO has been driving progress against that initial analysis, but the IP environment must continue to evolve to keep pace with technological and behavioural changes.

On Monday, 17 December, Rt Hon Dr Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills briefed an invited audience on his vision for developing the UK’s intellectual property landscape to encourage growth and a renewed programme of action for the IPO.
