The same UN that that was formed to avoid another World War has now stepped into the ongoing patent war between the tech superpowers, where no side looks willing to give up the fight.
The latest development in this ‘war’ came when Apple successfully blocked the US sale of Google’s flagship smartphone: the Galaxy Nexus. The judge ruled that Google, “has shown a likelihood of establishing both infringement and validity".

Environmentally sustainable must always be fiscally sustainable”, was the message from the Chancellor at Budget 2012. Providing a boost to North Sea oil, gas extraction and a £3billion new field allowance west of Shetland will certainly create jobs in the energy sector, but what about businesses and jobs which specifically reduce carbon emissions?

The recent launch of the Government’s Innovation and Research Strategy for Growth at the Big Innovation Centre by the Minister for Universities and Science, David Willetts, was, in their own words, a “multi-million pound package setting out the Government’s plans to boost economic growth through investment in research and innovation”. One of the highlights of the strategy is the establishment of an ‘Open Data Institute’ (ODI).
